About the Studio

Barb started Gordon Photography & Gallery, Inc. in 1993 after many years of working in other Iowa studios.

Located in Marion, Iowa at 1325 8th Avenue, the Mentzer House is part of the historic Pucker Street.  It was named after Benjamin Mentzer who built the French Empire style Victorian home in 1870. Benjamin Mentzer was a pioneer building contractor who also owned a grocery store on Main Street with his brother Charles.

Since November 2002, we have turned it into a studio and have continued restoring and remodeling along the way. There are awesome built in backgrounds here indoors and out! There are also many interesting locations we use in Marion that are close and convenient to the studio.

Q, the greeter, is a six year old bison frise that does a great job modeling and posing, especially for job shadow students and children having tea parties. Although he is highly sought after to come out and play, he is also quite discreet for those who are not necessarily dog lovers.
